Welcome to Your Library – National Library Week 2021

Hello everyone! It’s been a very long year, but at long last we are open once again! We are so happy to be able to see all of your smiling faces, and personally I’m excited that we’re opening during National Library Week! This fun event has been going on since 1958 when the American Library Association (ALA) wanted to “celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.” Funny enough, in the mid 1950s it was thought that too many people were listening to the radio and learning to play music in their free time and they needed to read more for leisure. Now we still do want you to read for fun, but we also want you to learn other hobbies. (Check out our three part series on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm this month called Teen Music Hour!)

I am so excited to see all of your smiling faces back at the libraries! (We might even have some in-person programming outside the Newhall Library on Fridays…) Just remember when you do come in, please be sure to wear your masks and continue social distancing.

I hope that you’ve all been staying safe and I can’t wait to see you all soon!
