Five Ways to Decorate Pumpkins for Halloween

Which holiday is coming up? Halloween! And what are some key aspects of Halloween? Sweets, costumes, trick-or-treating, and of course, decorations. And pumpkins are a key part of Halloween decor. However, carving pumpkins can be difficult and messy, so here are five ways you can save yourself the hassle and paint your pumpkins instead! All you’ll need are containers, paint, and paint brushes.

Style #1: Imitation of a Carved Pumpkin

  1. Sketch out your design on the pumpkin.

  2. Use black paint and fill in your design. It looks like you carved it, but it was actually ten times easier.

Style #2: Modern-Dipped Pumpkins

  1. Take your pumpkins and paint them whatever color you want. This color will be your base color, and will be the color seen underneath the dipped portion. Wait until dry.

  2. Fill a deep container with paint. Then, take your pumpkin and dip it in. Make sure you leave some of the base color visible.
Tip: try dipping them in different angles to make them look unique.

Style #3: Dripping Pumpkins

  1. Paint your pumpkin a base color, the one you will see underneath the drips. In the photo, the base colors are gray and white.

  2. Take a large amount of paint and put it around the stem of the pumpkin.

  3. Rotate the pumpkin to create the drips. You can add more paint if you run out.

Style #4: Stenciled Pumpkin
Disclaimer: This design requires stickers.

  1. Place your stickers where you want to have your design. In the picture, they placed their stickers where the circles are.

  2. Paint over the entire surface. In the photo, they used gold to paint over the stickers. Let it dry.

  3. Remove the stickers.

Style #5: Splattered Pumpkins

  1. Paint the pumpkin your desired color. In the photo, the base colors are tan, white, and black.

  2. Dip your brush in paint and hold it like you see in this tutorial from the Crate Paper blog. Aim where you want your splatters. Pull your finger back, moving it away from the pumpkin.
Tip: don’t push down on the bristles as you pull back.

Hopefully these designs gave you some inspiration and ideas on how to decorate your pumpkins this Halloween. Whatever you choose to do, have fun getting into the Halloween spirit!
