Test Kitchen: Oreo Truffles

Hey Teens ! So I have been meaning to try this recipe out that I found on Pintrest for a while know. Traditionally these type of truffles are covered in chocolate, but I stumbled upon another recipe that suggested covering the truffles in crushed Oreos instead. I loved this idea 1) the chocolate part can get messy and I was too lazy to clean up that kind of mess and 2) this brought the recipe down from 3 ingredients to 2, and I had both on hand.

I ended up making these with my family and we had more fun making these then we thought we would and the truffles are delicious, the Oreo crumb coating makes a huge difference. So if you want to make a super simple dessert or you need a treat for your next movie night, then follow the simple steps below.

Here is the link for the recipe and If you have special dietary needs check out this vegan friendly recipe.

Here are the ingrediants I used

  • 1½ packages Oreos (54 Oreo cookies)
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese
Other items you may need:
  • Large bowl
  • Rolling pin or a heavy spoon
  • parchment paper
  • baking sheet or large plate
  • a large ziplock bag

Enjoy!!

Step 1

Empty the 1 whole package of the Oreos into a large ziplock bag.

*Save the other half of the cookies for step 6

Step 2

Then smash the Oreos with a rolling pin or a large spoon. If you have one you can use a food processor, but smashing them is sooo much more fun and helps relieve stress.

Step 3

Then empty the bag of crushed Oreos in to a bowl, then add the 8oz. cream cheese.

Step 4

Mix the two ingredients, we found that using your hands was not only fun and satisfying but worked real well. But, you can use a spoon or hand mixer. You want combine the ingredients until they are fully incorporated and resembles a black paste

Step 5

Next with your hands or a tablespoon, scoop a portion of the truffle batter and roll it in your hands until you have a ball the size of a ping-pong ball.

Step 6

Place the rolled truffles on to a parchment lined backing sheet then place them in the refrigerator to chill for 15-20 min. This helps them firm and set.

Step 6

Take the remaining cookies and smash them, with this batch you will want to get the consistantcy to a very fine crumble to make it easier to roll, then place the crumbs on a plate. then roll the truffles one at a time until completly covered.
You can also cover them with melted chocolate if you have some.

Enjoy

That's it! You can start eating ( if you haven't already) or you can pop them back in the fridge for another 5 min or so to chill and allow them to firm, I found this allowed the crumbs to better adhere to the the truffle.
