TBR: Restore Me (Shatter Me Series, Book #4) by Taherah Mafi

Restore Me is all about Juliette’s new role as the supreme commander of North America and her, alongside her fellow allies and buddies, dealing with potential enemies from around the world. As a standalone book, I have to admit that it’s not the best, especially given the drier plot, but as a sequel/transition book for the entire story, it does a pretty good job.

Once again, Tahereh Mafi does a phenomenal job with the characters. There are two new central characters introduced in this story, Nazeera and Haider, although we don’t really get to know the latter all that well. However, they still feel genuine and distinctive. The characters, especially the three main ones–Juliette, Warner, and Kenji– really carry the series.

If you’re looking for a battle or war that involves the main characters like the ones in the first three books of the series, that element would unfortunately be absent in Restore Me. This book is a bit different in that it focuses more on character development and allowing readers to grow closer or at least have a better understanding of various characters. I’d say that Mafi definitely achieved her goal in this sense.

As usual, there is a major cliffhanger at the end that I guarantee will leave the majority of readers immediately wanting to read the next book in the series. Over the course of the four books of this series, I can really tell that Mafi is a talented and adaptable writer. Regardless of the type of scene or setting, the characters are consistently well-written, and the descriptions/language used are highly fitting. If not for the story, try it for the quality of writing contained inside. Enjoy!
