5 Ways to Celebrate Fall During a Pandemic

Fall. That time of the year when the air gets crisp and cool for fun travels, pumpkin patches are waiting to be flooded, children in costumes are awaiting the free candy on Halloween, and hungry friends and family are anticipating big Thanksgiving dinners. However, because of the pandemic, many heartwarming activities and parties are cancelled, kids might not receive any free candy on the 31st of October, and Thanksgiving dinners might not be as big as before with all our friends and family. Nevertheless, who says we still can’t have fun and celebrate like pre-pandemic? Staying spirited and optimistic with these 5 safe ways to celebrate fall during a pandemic, will lead to a fun time during this most beloved season!

1) DIY Halloween Party

Stay creative and design your own Halloween costume with things laying around the house! For example, you can cut some old tablecloths and just poke some holes here and there and become a ghost for Halloween! You definitely don’t have to go overboard, but staying festive on this day will feel like a regular Halloween. Do this with your family and host a photoshoot, eat some delicious candy, and watch a horror movie to celebrate this spooky day. You can also zoom with your friends and show off your costumes!

2) Bake (obviously pumpkin everything!)

Baking definitely got the hype during quarantine, and now that it’s fall, bring on the pumpkin desserts! From pumpkin pie to pumpkin bread to pumpkin scones to pumpkin cheesecake, the list goes on! Just don’t forget to stock up on some pumpkin spice; you’ll need tons of it.

A Recipe: Cream Cheese Pumpkin Roll

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 2⁄3 cup pumpkin puree
  • 3⁄4 cup of flour

  • 1⁄2 tsp of ground nutmeg
  • 1⁄2 tsp of salt
  • whatever spices are preferred
  • 1 package of cream cheese
  • 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar
  • softened butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

Step 1– Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease pan and line with wax paper
Step 2– Whisk eggs, sugar, pumpkin puree in a bowl
Step 3– Combine flour, spices, and salt; add this into the egg mixture after blended
Step 4– Bake in oven for about 15 minutes and cool; then remove wax paper and roll cake into towel
Step 5– Beat cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, butter, pumpkin puree, and vanilla extract
Step 6– Unroll the cake over a plastic and spread with the filling and reroll; refrigerate until chilled
Step 7– Enjoy!

3) DIY Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin patches are definitely the hot spot during fall. You can recreate your own pumpkin patch and take cute pictures in your own home. Buy a couple of pumpkins, decorate and carve them, set up an aesthetic background during golden hour for that lighting, and don’t forget that cute outfit for a totally impromptu photoshoot!

4) Help Those In Need

As Thanksgiving rolls around, many people are surrounded with loved ones and delicious food. However, there’s always those in need that don’t get the same experience. If possible, making giveaway bags filled with necessities like food, masks, or socks can be given out to those in need, or donating food to the local food bank. Some homeless shelter volunteer opportunities are available, so sign up to feed those in need during these difficult times, where food is hard to obtain for these people.

5) Just Relax

We all love just a day filled with nothing but everything. All you need to do is wrap yourself in your favorite blanket, watch your favorite show on Netflix, drink a pumpkin latte, read your favorite book, light up a fall candle, and enjoy your chill day.
