Recently, a friend told me about a game called War Robots, and with the stresses of school life, I thought getting into a new game would be a nice way to relax. The game did not disappoint. War Robots is a 5v5, originally 6v6, multiplayer game in which players use their robots in well, wars. It’s got over 50 million downloads in the Google Play store and ranked as an Editor’s Choice game. There is a broad selection of robots and weapons to choose from, and the game offers many different modes of gameplay, which are namely Beacon Rush, Domination, Skirmish, Team Deathmatch, and Free-for-All. The cool thing about the Skirmish mode is that it allows you to play and try out more advanced gear and robots in matches despite not owning the gear and robots yourself. To give a bit more description about each of the modes, in Domination, you respawn (if you have robots remaining to deploy) continually at your home base, while Beacon Rush is essentially a fast-paced version of Domination with you being able to spawn in your robots at any beacons your team has captured. Team Deathmatch is all about action and destruction; you don’t have to worry about capturing beacons at all. And lastly, Free-For-All, or
FFA for short, is a game mode in which there are no teams and every player fights for himself/herself.
The only issues that I found with this game are that it is a bit pay-to-win, and there seems to be some high levels of lag at times (which are more evident in Samsung devices). Otherwise, the concepts and design of this game are great, and the graphics are awesome. I really enjoy the multiplayer aspect of this game, and it honestly seems like a nice way to vent stress or anger from a bad day.
There are also a lot of different maps you can fight on. These maps include a moon base, a desert, an enormous valley, and a frozen tundra –with more continually being added by Pixonic, the game developer. War Robots is also great for starting players, as it offers great instructions on how to command your robots in a game and start upgrading/gearing up. For robots, they even have special abilities like increased resistance to attacks, flight, teleportation, etc. Overall, I was really impressed by War Robots and hope to play it some more in the future.
