Ignite Me has surpassed both the Unravel Me and Shatter Me books for me, becoming my favorite in the Unravel Me series thus far and showing that unlike many other series, this one doesn’t progressively get worse. Ignite Me, if I were to give a concise summary, is about Juliette discovering an entirely destroyed Omega Point (the base where rebels against the Reestablishment, mostly those with special powers, have been camping), rejoining with some of her allies/friends, getting to know Warner better, and becoming engaged in the war against the
Supreme Commander of the United States and all other enemies with her buddies at her back.
Once again, there is a major cliffhanger at the end of the book that will leave you asking questions and make your imagination run wild. I enjoyed this read partly for the action, its dystopian aspect, and suspense, but more so because of the characters themselves. Their actions and dialogue are well-written to the point where it feels that they’re simply real. Kenji (Juliette’s closest friend), for instance, is extremely likable due to his cheerful and funny personality. Warner is now revealed to be someone who is extremely thoughtful and caring who has undergone a level of suffering that rivals Juliette’s, and his more reserved nature to others (with the exception of Juliette) throughout most of the book gave me a couple of good laughs.
I truly think that the characters are the true highlight/gem of this book and the entire series, and they make this series mean more than just another simple dystopian series. It’s honestly hard to put the book down once you start because not only are you wondering what event or mystery lies ahead but also how a certain character would respond to something said to them or a certain revelation.
Ignite Me is truly a worthwhile read. There are some sentences in that book that are kind of deep, if that makes sense, like words of wisdom, and there are important messages that lie within its covers, mostly about being quick to judge others. Hopefully, as you progress through this novel, you too will feel that the characters in this book are genuine and maybe even have a couple of good laughs along the way!
