TBR: Enter a Murderer by Ngaio Marsh

“Enter a Murderer” was written by Ngaio Marsh, a New Zealand crime fiction author. It is the second novel of Ngaio Marsh’s Roderick Alleyn mysteries. Inspector Roderick Alleyn is the main protagonist of all of Ngaio Marsh’s books. The story takes place in the Unicorn Theatre, where one of the actors is murdered by a gunshot. During the play, there is a scene where one character shoots another character with a gun. The gun used to shoot the actor is supposed to be a fake, but during the live performance, someone switched the fake bullet with a real one. So, instead of acting dead, the actor is actually dead. The victim of this mystery is Arthur Surbonadier, an actor who rose to fame through bribery, instead of talent. Little did the murderer know that there was a detective in the audience, watching the show.

As Inspector Roderick Alleyn solves the case, a few questions come to mind. Who exactly is the murderer? Did the culprit switch the fake bullet with a real bullet to make another person do dirty work for them? Is the actor that shot the fake gun the real murderer? These mysteries are solved as the book unfolds. But, be aware that the murderer can be anyone. The culprit may be a person that everyone likes…

The book has a really intriguing plot. The murderer is unexpected and countless readers were actually fooled while reading the book. It gives the readers’ brain a puzzle to solve, with unexpected twists. Mysteries that happen in theatres may be very common, but this book is unique, and can be very enjoyable and addicting to read. People who fancy unique plot lines will definitely find “Enter a Murderer” to be an unusual plot twist. Read “Enter a Murderer” to find out what the surprising plot twist is!
