Your mission, if you choose to accept it…

By now, you may have noticed there are a number of missions to complete during the summer reading program, everything from simply reading a book to taking selfies around Santa Clarita. If you haven’t yet signed up, jump in here, points and prizes await! Today, we’re going to be highlighting one of the mission sets for teens.

Mission two starts the way most missions start, Reading is FUNdamental, where all you have to do is read and log one book. Easy, right? This’ll also keep you on track for completing the Five Book Challenge of reading and logging five books during the summer, so you’re really working on two missions in one.

Database Grandmaster is another easy one, if you visit our website, just look under the tab at the top labeled E-library. This is where our articles and databases are, and there are many to choose from. Interested in languages? Check out Pronunciator! Looking for some tips on building a resume, or some one on one help on what can be approved? Check out JobNow! Explore around, and the mission is complete!

Attend one of our many teen programs throughout June and July to complete Power-Up With a Program. It can be Fandom Jeopardy, trivia on some of the biggest fandoms; Development Lab, which features different electronics to experiment with; even Pixel Pals, perler-bead made pixelated art! We have a huge amount of programs throughout Summer Reading, Valencia’s are generally on Tuesdays, Canyon Country’s on Wednesday, and Newhall on Thursday. We look forward to seeing you!

It’s a Sign is one of my favorites, and just involves keeping a sharp eye out. Hidden in our digital signage throughout the library is a secret code, starting with a hashtag. Take a look at our signage, especially the slides about teen programs, and see if you can pick out where the code is hidden.

The last one involves a bit of exploring. Wind, Water, Hart involves taking a picture around Santa Clarita and exploring the town. You have your choice of locations, wind, for the Vasquez Rocks up near Agua Dulce, water, for Castaic Lake, and Hart, for the William S. Hart Museum here in town. You can also take a picture at one of the many parks or museums around town, the choice is yours!

Complete these, and you’ve earned a big boost in points and a free book!
